    Synthesis of Hydroxychavicol from Eugenol : Graduations Thesis

    Hydroxychavicol, a compound with multiple biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects, was successfully synthesized from eugenol at the laboratory scale. The optimal demethylation conditions involved AlCl₃ and pyridine in acetonitrile, yielding up to 89%. Structural confirmation was performed by MS and NMR, and product purity reached 97.113% (GC-MS). This synthesis lays the foundation for scaling up and exploring hydroxychavicol derivatives.
